Gabonese midfielder Mario Lemina has become Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new captain, having joined the club 18 months ago.

The battling midfielder is fully aware of the importance of Sunday’s game as Wolves aim to end their Hawthorns hoodoo.
But as the Premier League side travel to their Championship opposition, Lemina says Wolves must focus on playing their usual game to pick up an historic win.
The 30-year-old midfielder has become a fans’ favourite and has impressed under Gary O’Neill as Wolves finished 14th in the Premier League last season.
“Mario was definitely my top choice. We have a lot of leadership qualities and I’ve made a selection based on working with him throughout the season. I think it’s the right time for Mario. He’s got the respect of his team-mates and he’s got the quality to push the standards of the team. Of course, there were a few conversations with him about taking on the role. He’s very happy and excited. I think it’ll help him with his leadership on the pitch. It’s a good thing,” O’Neill said.
Lemina has a wealth of experience in football, having started his career at Lorient, Marseille, Juventus, Southampton, Galatasaray, Fulham and most recently Nice, before making 54 Premier League appearances for the Wolves
